Slow Down, Move Over, and Save Lives!

All 50 states in the U.S. have some sort of “Slow Down and Move Over Law” that is put in place to prevent injury to roadside workers. By requiring drivers to slow down and switch lanes when a construction vehicle with flashing caution lights is seen, the vast number of roadside workers losing their lives per year (an average of 200) can be prevented.

Though there is little public awareness of these laws (reportedly only 70% of Americans have heard of the “Move Over” laws), they are in place and often enforced by strict fines. Being struck by oncoming vehicles is a very real threat for both roadside workers and law enforcement officials, so applying yourself and spreading the word about “Move Over” laws is a small effort that does a lot to save the lives of workers across the U.S.

So, next time you come across a construction or law enforcement vehicle with emergency blinkers on, slow down and change lanes with confidence! And when you decide to find your next vehicle to do so with, visit Team Kia of Bend!
